Elizabeth Margaret Eberlein (nee Benz) was born in Batavia, Ill., the 14th day of January, 1867, and came in the spring of 1869 with her parents to Pleasant Valley township, Grundy county, Iowa. On October 14th, 1883, she was united in marriage to Fred C. Eberlein. They were blessed with ten children, 5 boys and 5 girls, which are Mrs. Maud Harms of Wellsburg, Harry of Steamboat Rock, Lester of Bristow, Mrs. Albert Ross of Wellsburg, Ford, Edna, Hilda and Hazel who reside at home, and Frederick and William who preceded their mother in death. The deceased also leaves to mourn her death five grandchildren besides two sisters and two brothers.
Our dear sister, wife and mother's health started to fail about three years ago and as time slowly passed on she gradually grew worse. She was given the best of care, skilled doctors were called and did all in their power to relieve her suffering, but all was in vain. On January 10th, at 8:45 p.m., the Lord called her to her heavenly home, her great suffering ended. She will be greatly missed by her dear family, neighbors and friends.
She will be missed by her husband as a most loving helpmate, by the children as one of the best mothers, neighbors and friends will miss her ready help and words of cheer, as she was always ready in time of need. She lived fifty-two years on the same section and all who know her loved her, but the Dear Lord who makes no mistakes, knows best and took her Home where pain and sorrow and parting are not known.
Thine eyes are closed forever,
Thy voice forever stilled,
The place that thou left vacant,
Never, never can be filled. The funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Pleasant Valley church, conducted by Rev. Cramer of Abbott, Ia., and Rev. Engel, a former pastor.
Those who attended from a distance were Harry Eberlein and family from Steamboat Rock, Ia; Lester Eberlein and wife from Bristow, Ia; Mrs. Minnie Kuter from Aurora, Ill; William Eberlein from Rock Rapids, Ia; Chas. Eberlein from George, Ia; August Benz, of White, South Dakota.
Card of Thanks
We desire to express our sincere appreciation for the kindness shown us by our friends and neighbors in the long illness of our dear wife and mother, also the choir for their service so cheerfully given and the beautiful floral tributes which were tokens of sympathy.
