Ben Neessen Dies At Iowa City Hospital
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 23rd at 3:00 p.m. at the Second Christian Reformed Church for Ben Neessen. Rev. John Olthoff will be the officiating clergyman.
Ben Neessen died on Monday, July 19th at the State University hospital at Iowa City at 7:45 p.m. where he had been taken that forenoon for the purpose of treatment and possible surgery for a gangrene and dropsy condition in his left foot. He died suddenly of a heart attack. For the past three years he had had a heart condition.
The deceased was born on December 28, 1888 in Steamboat Rock and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Neessen. Here he lived until 1898 when he came to Wellsburg with his parents. In Wellsburg he assisted his father in the operation of a general merchandise store and later took over the business himself. For a number of years he served as star route mail carrier. He was employed at the Eldora Training School for almost 4 years.
On June 8, 1910 he was united in holy wedlock to Miss Gertie Meyer in the parental W. A. Meyer home by Rev. J. E. Drake. To this union was born one child, Clara who is Mrs. Carl Young of St. Louis.
Survivors of the deceased are his wife and one daughter, two grandsons, Bernard Zwyers of California and James Zwyers of Wellsburg, also his aged mother, Mrs. W. T. Neessen. His father preceded him in death in October 1932 and one brother, Earl Neessen of Tipton preceded him in March 1949.
