Rites Friday For Joe D. Meester

Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Bethany Presbyterian Church, preceded by a prayer service at the Engelkes Funeral Home in Grundy Center, at 1:30 p.m. for Joe D. Meester, age 86, who passed away Tuesday morning Feb. 18th, at 2 a.m. at his home in Grundy Center.

Rev. A. J. Straatmeyer of Bethany Presbyterian Church, of which he was a member, will officiate.

Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center, Iowa.

He was born Nov. 30, 1877, in Pleasant Valley township, Grundy county, Iowa, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Meester. He was married to Kathryn Haren on December 26, 1906. They farmed on the farm in Pleasant Valley township, where he was born.

They retired to Grundy Center 16 years ago. He resided on the farm upon which he was born for 70 years.

He had been sick about a year, following a stroke.

Survivors are his wife, Kathryn, two sons, Daniel of Grundy Center and Harold of Holland, two daughters, Gladys (Mrs. John VanDeest) of Grundy Center, and Josephine (Mrs. Chris Flater) of Grundy Center, 18 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Duane Meester, Jack Flater, James Meester, Norman VanDeest, Rodney Fatler, Donald VanDeest.
