Helmer Molendorp Funeral Held Wednesday Afternoon

Mr. Helmer Molendorp was born on September 28, 1879 in German Township, north of Wellsburg. He was the youngest son of Conrad and Treintje Molendorp. He was a life time resident of this community and one of its early settlers.

On March 6, 1907 he was united in marriage to Meintdena Huisman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jurgen Huisman, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in German Township by the Rev. Kuhne. The first year of their wedded life was spent on a farm southeast of Parkersburg. The following year they moved to a farm west of Wellsburg where they lived for two years. In 1910 the family moved to their own farm northwest of the village where he lived the greater part of life. In God's providence Mr. and Mrs. Molendorp enjoyed a happy wedded life for some forty years. Their union was blessed with two sons Conrad and Jerry, and although their family life was not without its adversities it was likewise rich in blessings and happiness.

In December of 1935 Mr. and Mrs. Molendorp moved to their small farm just outside the village of Wellsburg. Although on a moderate scale here he continued to be active in farming in these last years. This he enjoyed, and he was given health and strength that he might be active and busy beyond the years of many. It was during this last year that Mr. Molendorp's health was failing. At first no one was aware that his condition was so serious. On August 26 he was taken to the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo for examination and treatments. The examination revealed that the brother was afflicted with dreaded carcinoma. Further medical help for his recovery was impossible. On September 2nd he returned to his home where he was cared for by the family assisted by Mrs. Peters. During these last weeks he was confined to his bed. It was not his nature to complain, and in these weeks of suffering he cheerfully and submissively bore his affliction. Mr. Molendorp passed away last Sunday morning at the age of 68 years and 21 days. Thru the years he was the warm friend of those who knew him, a respected member of the community and an attendant and supporter of the local congregation.

The surviving relatives are his widow, Mrs. Helmer Molendorp, two sons, Conrad and Jerry Molendorp, both of Wellsburg, two grandchildren, Belvalea and Garry Dean Molendorp and three brothers, Aielt Molendorp of Sibley, Iowa, and Martin and Herman Molendorp of Wellsburg. Besides these there are also two half-brothers and nine half-sisters. The departed was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Molendorp, and four sisters, Ellen who passed away in infancy, Hilka who died at the age of 17, Etta (Mrs. Henry Walters) and Martha (Mrs. G. Kruger.)

Funeral services for Helmer Molendorp were held Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 1:00 o'clock at the home and after at the Second Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg. Services were in charge of the pastor, Rev. J. H. Rubingh. Interment was in the Shiloh Cemetery in Wellsburg.

Music was furnished by Mrs. Clarence Beecroft, soloist, with Mrs. Ray Toomsen as pianist. Flower attendants were Miss Marcella Neessen and Miss Carrie Wubbens. Casketbearers were John Weichers, Conrad Weichers, Jerry H. Peters, Jake H. Peters, Jerry D. Huisman, Wm. D. Huisman.
