Geo. Meyer Died 3:30 A.M. Thurs.

George Meyer is dead.

He passed away at 3:30 Thursday morning. While death was not entirely unexpected, still the end was nearer than was realized. George was in a most critical condition a year or more ago but recovered and most of us hoped that the same thing would happen again. But it was not to be and the young man succumbed quickly to this second attack, being in bed only about three weeks. He had been troubled with sciatica for a month or so, but was believed to be improving, until his old trouble returned and the end came quickly.

George was born about 27 years ago on the same farm where he died--the Meyer family's old home southwest of Wellsburg.

He leaves a wife, and two boys--Wayne, aged 7, and Herbert, a baby of a year. Besides these, there are left to mourn his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Meyer, two sisters, Mrs. Ben Neessen and Mrs. Ray Nichols, and a brother, Albert W. Meyer.

The funeral will be held Monday, May 26, at 1 o'clock at the house. Services will also be held at the English-Speaking Christian Reformed church, Rev. Holtrop officiating. Interment will be made in the Meyer family lot in Wellsburg cemetery.

The pall bearers will be boyhood friends of about the departed young man's age, from the neighborhood of his childhood home.

Geo. Meyer Funeral Held Monday

The funeral services of George W. Meyer were held last Monday, and were attended by a very large number of the friends of the deceased, in spite of the rainy weather.

The English church was packed and many could not gain entrance.

The services were in charge of Rev. Holtrop, assisted by Rev. H. C. Bode and Prof. F. H. Wezeman.

The music by a mixed quartet was very effective and touching.

George W. Meyer was born March 18, 1897, on the farm south west of Wellsburg where he died on May 22, 1924.

All his life was spent in this vicinity. On March 21, 1917, he was married to Miss Dena Nessen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. G. H. Neessen of Wellsburg. This union was blessed with three children, of whom one, and infant son, preceded the father in death six years ago.

More than a year ago his life was threatened by a very malignant disease but apparently recovered in a remarkable way. During this spring, however, the same trouble returned with increased force. He was confined to his bed scarcely two weeks before his death but endured much pain before yielding. All that medical and surgical attention could do was done for him. He succumbed to the dread disease with certain complications on May 22, 1924, at 3:30 a.m.

There are left to mourn his departure his grief-stricken wife, his two sons, Wayne Alvin and Herbert George, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Meyer, two sisters, Mrs. Ben Neessen and Mrs. Ray Nichols and a brother, Albert W. Meyer. Two brothers preceded him in death.

George was well known and well liked in this part of the county. He was a fine musician and was a very capable player on almost any form of instrument. He was a member of the Wellsburg Concert Band, and is greatly missed by that organization, though he has not played regularly with it for some time before his death.

His friendly disposition was such as to win him many friends, and his early demise will be greatly regretted by all. The family have the deep sympathy of the entire community in their loss.
