Hazel Hook, 96, of Wellsburg, passed away on Monday, June 25, 2012 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care in Grundy Center, Iowa, while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. A funeral service will be held on Thursday June 28, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. at United Reformed Church in Wellsburg. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery in Wellsburg. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 27, 2012, from 5 to 7 P.M. at Doyen-Abels Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Hazel was born in Holland, Iowa on September 3, 1915, the daughter of James and Louise (Dirks) Smith. She grew up in Holland, where she attended school until the eighth grade and graduated from Grundy Center High School. On April 10, 1941, Hazel was united in marriage to Benjamin Hook in Holland, IA. Hazel taught Country school in Grundy County. The couple welcomed two children into their family.

She was a member of the United Reformed Church in Wellsburg. Hazel enjoyed in her younger years golfing and attending her grandchildren's school activities. She enjoyed watching TV, especially game shows. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends especially her grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Hazel is survived by her children, Mardean Willis of Wellsburg and Paul (Cindy) Hook of Victoria, MN; 8 grandchildren, James (Diane) Albers, Michael(Sandee) Albers, Rhonda (Michael)Myers, Jesse (Lori) Willis, Jennifer (Derek) Richtsmeier, Matthew Hook, Martin Hook and Maggie Hook; 12 great-grandchildren, Amber, Coty and Shawn Albers, Jordan, Braxton, Trenton and Brooke Myers, Kylie, Wesley, and Carlie Willis, Cole and Erin Richtsmeier and 2 great-great- grandchildren, Krayton and Haleigh. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Benjamin; sisters, Mary Schoneman and Viola Hanson; son-in-law, Donald Willis; and granddaughter-in-law, Kim Albers.
