Harlan Kolthoff, 79 of Wellsburg, passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at his home in Wellsburg while under Care Initiatives Hospice. A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 22nd, 10:30 A.M. at the United Reformed Church of Wellsburg with Pastor Matthew Nuiver officiating. A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 21st from 4 to 7 P.M. at Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg. Burial will follow funeral services at the Shiloh Cemetery in Wellsburg.

Harlan was born on February 18, 1932 in Wellsburg, the son of Kobus & Alice (Klooster) Kolthoff. A lifelong Wellsburg resident, Harlan attended school in Wellsburg until the 8th grade. On February 19, 1954, Harlan was united in marriage to Imogene Huisman. The couple resided in Wellsburg and welcomed two sons to the family. He farmed locally for 15 years and worked at Fisher Controls in Marshalltown for 27 years, until his retirement.

Harlan was a member of the United Reformed Church of Wellsburg and served as Deacon at the church. He enjoyed fishing, bus trips with his wife, road trips out in the timber and bowling on a local league. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and enjoyed his Sunday dinners with his family. Harlan was incredibly intelligent, was an easygoing man and always wanted to be the "peacemaker". He had a great sense of humor and is going to be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Imogene of Wellsburg; sons Rodney (Jean) Kolthoff of Wellsburg & Randall Kolthoff of Wellsburg; grandchildren Jamie (Jeff) Rae & Sara Kolthoff of Wellsburg, Kayla Kolthoff of Osage & Chris (Brittney) Fagerlind of Monticello, IN; great-grandchildren Jadyn & Jenika Rae of Wellsburg and Carson & Courtney Fagerlind of Monticello, IN; sisters Linda (Daryl) Geiken of Conrad & Janice (James) Steinmeyer of Grundy Center; brother James (Marlene) Kolthoff of Ackley; aunt Henrietta Klooster of Aplington and many nieces and nephews.

Harlan was preceded in death by his parents.
