Swantje Snittjer, nee Harms, was born in Stevenson county, Ill., on Feb. 4, 1853. She came to Iowa in 1862. In the fall of 1872 she was united in marriage with Boeke Sievers. This union was blessed by the birth of two children; its happiness however was of short duration as Mr. Sievers died in 1875, leaving his young wife a widow with two small children. In 1878 Mrs. Sievers was again married when on March 8, she became the wife of Simon Snittjer. Eight children were born to this union. All children with the exception of one grew to manhood and womanhood although two of her married daughters were called into the beyond within the last few years.

Mrs. Snittjer twice accompanied her husband overseas, where they spent a year and a half the first time and three years the second time on a visit. Five years ago they moved to Ackley.

Although Mrs. Snittjer had more or less heart trouble in recent years, her death due to this trouble never-the-less came as a severe shock to her family on Friday, December 10, 1920.

Mrs. Snittjer attained an age of 67 years 10 months and 6 days. She leaves to mourn her sudden death her husband, three sons and four daughters, one brother and one sister, twenty grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted on Monday by Rev. E. Seybold, the service being held in St. John's church. Interment was made in the cemetery adjoining the Christian Reformed church near Wellsburg, Rev. Bode, pastor.
