Carol Jane Holmes, 55, of 2730 Prairie Dr. NE, formerly of Grundy Center and Denver, died Saturday, Aug. 26, 1995, in her home after a long illness. Services: 9 a.m. Tuesday, Cedar Memorial Funeral Home, by the Revs. Lloyd Brockmeyer and Richard Newhall of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Burial: Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home and after 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel. Services will also be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Engelkes Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, where friends may call after 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Carol was born Jan. 13, 1940, in Wellsburg to Ben and Grace Lupkes Venenga and married Wendell Holmes on May 23, 1974, in Nashua. She was a legal secretary for Kliebenstein and Heronimus in Grundy Center and an associate preschool teacher in Denver. Carol was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.
Survivors include her husband, Wendell; a stepson, Michael Holmes and wife Patricia of Denver, and children Paul, Matthew and Ruby; a stepdaughter, Janice Stone and husband John of Des Moines, and children Andrew, Audrey and Evan; four brothers, Bernard Venenga, Darrell Venenga and wife Nancy, Elton Venenga and Keith Venenga and wife Elaine, all of Grundy Center; and five sisters, LeAnn Bettenga and husband Paul of Holland, Iowa, Doris Roberts of Dike, Marcia Stumpf of Cedar Falls and Dee Zumbrunnen and husband Jim and Rebecca Jacobs and husband Eric, all of Cedar Rapids; seven nieces; eight nephews; 10 great-nieces; and four great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister-in-law, Margaret Venenga; two brothers-in-law, George Roberts and Terry Stumpf; two nephews; and a niece.
Memorial contributions may be made to Multiple Sclerosis, Hospice of Mercy or the United Methodist Women.
