L. J. Morrison Passed Away Monday, Sept. 19

Came To Iowa From Pennsylvania And Settled On Farm Nearly Fifty Years Ago

In Business The Past Few Years

Suffered a Stroke of Paralysis Last June From Which He Never Fully Recovered

Mr. Leonard J. Morrison, one of Grundy county's pioneer residents, passed away at 4:30 Monday afternoon of this week at his home in Morrison.

Mr. Morrison was stricken suddenly with paralysis last June and has been unable to attend to his business since that time, although he had partially recovered from the stroke.

Leonard J. Morrison was born in Fayette county, Penn., July 24, 1849, and at the time of his death was aged 72 years, 1 month and 25 days.

He came to Iowa in 1872 and settled on a farm north of Morrison where he lived for about four years.

On February 7th, 1874, Mr. Morrison was united in marriage to Miss Eva Hoxie of Grundy Center. Ten children were born to this union of which three are now living. They are Mrs. Floy Hood of Morrison and Albert and Robert of Carthage, S.D.

The family moved to the farm now owned by Chas. Conradi a short distance northwest of Grundy Center, in 1876 and continued to live there until 1891 when they moved to Morrison where Mr. Morrison engaged in the mercantile business and which he followed up to the time of his late illness.

Mrs. Morrison passed away at Morrison Febr. 11th, 1895 and he was later married to Mrs. Caroline Show, of Pennsylvania and she with one brother of the deceased, A. S. Morrison, of Smithfield, Penn., who is the last survivor of a large family, three children and four grandchildren are left to mourn the departure of a kind and loving husband, brother and father.

Mr. Morrison was a great worker in the Methodist church for years and he leaves a host of friends. The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved relatives.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the Presbyterian church at Morrison, Rev. J. C. Orth of Cedar Falls officiating. Interment was in the Grundy Center cemetery.
