Mary Kathryn Niehuis, daughter of the late Minert Meyer and his wife Grietje, nee Franzen, was born in Germany on April 10, 1866. In the spring of 1884 she came with her parents to this country. The family first lived north of Ackley. Later they moved to Buck Grove. On Dec. 21, 1885, she was united in marriage to Dirk Niehuis. To this union five children were born. The Niehuis' lived on a farm near Buck Grove where Mr. Niehuis passed away Nov. 21, 1914. Six years later Mrs. Niehuis and her daughter Anna moved to Aplington where they lived together until the fall of 1945. After that Mrs. Niehuis made her home with her other daughter and her son-in-law until July 10, 1947, when she was taken to the Presbyterian hospital in Waterloo where she passed away on Monday, September 22, at the age of 81 years, 5 months and 12 days.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Grace Lindaman of Aplington; two sons, Minert Niehuis of Wellsburg and Ole Niehuis of Aplington; two grandsons, Delbert Niehuis of Wellsburg and Donald Lindaman of Aplington; one great granddaughter, Judith Kaye Lindaman, and also one sister, Mrs. Mina Wildeboer of Aplington; besides other relatives and friends. Two children preceded her in death. One died in infancy, and Ann, with whom for so many years she made her home, died on Sept. 19. 1945.
