John R. Schipper, age 79, of Ackley, died on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at his home in Ackley. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday at the West Friesland Church, rural Ackley with burial in the West Friesland Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 P.M. Friday at the Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley.
John Raymond Schipper was born on January 16, 1932 in Kesley, Iowa to Richard Sr and Jessie (Marks) Schipper. He attended school in the rural Kesley area. John enlisted into the United States Army in 1952 at Camp Crowder. While in the Army, John was stationed in Austria. On February 12, 1957, John was united in marriage to Clarene Giesking at the First Congregational Church in Parkersburg. John and Clarene enjoyed square dancing in different communities for 30 years. John farmed four miles east of Ackley for 47 years. He was also a lifetime member of Amvets Post 83 in Kesley, he held many offices at the church an was a Sunday school teacher. He was active in Iowa Pork Producers, Iowa Cattlemens’ Association and Farm Bureau. John enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren attending many school athletic events.
John is survived by his wife Clarene of Ackley, two sons LaVern (Pam) Schipper of Ackley and Clarence (Marcia) Schipper of Ackley, two daughters Jeanette (Kevin) Clawson of Owatonna, Minnesota and Carlene (Dan) Bergeson of Ackley. Ten grandchildren: Bo, Brett, Rusty & Jessica, and Ryley Schipper; Tabatha, Taneisha and Teresa Clawson; Troy and Stacy Bergeson. Three sisters: Bena (Floyd) Bierman of Dumont, Anna (Royce) Harms of Wellsburg and Marion (Ken) Nelson of Iowa City, two sisters-in-law Loraine (John) Kalkwarf of Aplington and Marian Schipper of Aplington, and an Aunt Bena Knock of Cedar Falls.
John was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers George, Richard, and Arnold, and one sister-in-law Beverly Schipper.
