Matthew Loger of Grundy Center passed away Saturday, May 29, 1993 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, IA., of natural causes, having attained the age of 82 years, 9 months and 24 days.

Matt was born the son of John and Johanna (Murra) Loger in Shiloh township, Grundy County, Iowa on August 5, 1910. He attended rural school near his home.

On February 20, 1942 he was united in marriage to Alene Muller of rural Holland. They farmed three miles west of Holland from 1942-1973. In 1973 they became custodians of Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, rural Holland until 1978. They then made their home in Grundy Center.

Matt was very active as a volunteer for the nutrition center at the Community Center in Grundy Center and in June of 1989 received the Governor's Award for Volunteerism. He was a 50-year member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church in Holland, serving for several years as an elder and trustee. He was an active member of the Gideon's International, and enjoyed playing shuffleboard in Grundy Center. Matt also enjoyed taking bus tours with fellow senior citizens.

He was preceded in death by his wife Alene in June of 1981; and infant son; and two brothers John and Will Loger.

Survivors include his daughter Sandra and husband Tom Simms of rural Grundy Center; 3 grandchildren: Lori Simms Abney and husband Mike of Tulsa, OK and Ellie and Michael Simms of Grundy Center; and one great-grandchild Shaurice Abney.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 1, 1993 at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, rural Holland, at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Larry C. Hoop officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
