Harry R. Taffinder, age 75, of Wellsburg, passed away on March 10 at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, from an extended illness.

Memorial services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, at the Second Christian Reformed Church, Wellsburg. The Rev. Charles Kooger was the officiating clergyman.

The soloist, Terry Bohlen, sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Where The Roses Never Fade," accompanied by Mrs. Carol Krull, who also played the Prelude and the Postlude on the organ.

Flower ladies were Luella Nederhoff and Jennie Ross.

Ushers were Carl J. Nederhoff and Clifford Bergmann.

Burial was in the Steamboat Rock Cemetery, Steamboat Rock.

Harry R. Taffinder of Wellsburg was born on October 14, 1912, in Brooklyn, NY, to David W. and Elizabeth Wamsley Taffinder. He was orphaned at the age of two years.

When he was nine years old, he and his older brother, David, came to Grundy Center with the Orphan Train, sponsored by The Children's Aid Society of the Church. Harry made his home until age 19 with Herman and Gladys Stahl of Holland. At age 19 he returned to Brooklyn, NY, where he worked as a trucker for S & H Green Stamp Co.

He received his education in the Holland and Dike schools.

He married Myra Vestacel in New York. She passed away in 1966. On April 12, 1986, he married Minnie Meyer Taffinder at Dike.

He was a member of the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He was discharged in 1945 and returned to Brooklyn, NY.

He is survived by his wife Minnie of Wellsburg, a step-son Ronald D. Taffinder of Seabrook, TX, a step-daughter Mrs. Rita W. Brown of Arlington, VA, a foster sister Mrs. Marvin (Beulah) Graves of Dike, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Elizabeth Connelly in 1983, his brother David in 1982, and his wife Myra.

A memorial fund has been established by the family.

The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home of Wellsburg was in charge of the arrangements.
