Mrs. August Haupt Dies On Sunday

Mrs. Kate Haupt passed away around 4:45 Sunday morning, May 17, at the Schoitz Memorial Hospital in Waterloo following a lingering illness. She had been taken to the hospital for treatment on May 8th. She reached the age of 74 years, 8 months and 21 days.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 19, 1981 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church. Rev. Leslie Kuiper was officiating pastor. The Messengers Quartet, Richard Schafer, Arnold Eiten, Lary Riebkes, and Willis Bakker sang two selections accompanied by Mrs. LuRay Meyer. Miss Elizabeth Eekhoff was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Robert Valentine and Mrs. Helen Riekena. Pallbearers were Irwin Abels, Clarence Murra, Roger Nederhoff, Melvin Haupt, Wallace Haupt, and Kenneth Bunger. Interment was held in the First Christian Reformed Church cemetery. Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Kate was born on August 26, 1906, on a farm west of Wellsburg, the daughter of Andrew and Aafke (Jaspers) Murra and attended the Wellsburg School graduating with the class of 1925. On December 7, 1926, she was united in marriage to August Haupt at the First Christian Reformed Church parsonage by the Rev. H. C. Bode. Following their marriage they lived on a farm southwest of Wellsburg. This union was blessed with one daughter, Esther. They were privileged to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with their family and friends. In July of 1973 they retired from the farm and moved to Wellsburg to make their home.

Mrs. Haupt was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg having made profession of faith on March 29, 1927. She was a long-time member of the Timothy Sisters Society.

Preceding her in death were: her parents; a sister in infancy; a sister, Mrs. Mae Kuper; and one brother, Allie Murra.

Those left to mourn her passing are: her husband, August Haupt; a daughter, Mrs. Esther Buse of Lennox, South Dakota; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Helen Ohling of Wellsburg, Mrs. Fannie Ruter of Wellsburg, Mrs. Carl J. (Carrie) Nederhoff of Wellsburg, Abe Mrrra of Wellsburg, George Murra of Wellsburg and many other relatives and friends.
