George Blythe was born on July 12, 1906, near Salem, in Henry County, Iowa, the son of Frank and Hattie (Pierce) Blythe. He passed away on Friday morning, January 21, 1977, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center following a lingering illness. He reached the age of 70 years, 6 months and 9 days.

On September 5, 1929, he was united in marriage to Grace Ruter. Following their marriage they lived in the Wellsburg area. For the past 25 years they lived on their present farm place, rural Steamboat rock.

George was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg having made confession of his faith in Jesus Christ on September 30, 1929.

Preceding him in death were: His parents, one grandson Larry Dale Blythe and two brothers, Carl and Walter Blythe.

Survivors include: His wife, Grace, five sons and two daughters, Gene Blythe of Wellsburg; Kenneth Blythe of Ormond Beach, Florida; Alvin Blythe of Wellsburg; Ernest Blythe of Grundy Center; Mrs. Dale (Mary Ann) Vry of Parkersburg; Mrs. Gene (Ila Mae) Venenga of Holland; Wayne Blythe of Steamboat Rock; twenty-one grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his foster-mother, Mrs. A. J. Janssen, who is confined to the Presbyterian Home in Ackley; one half-brother, John Fehy of New London; two sisters, Mrs. Helen Johnson of Oskaloosa; Mrs. Jesse (Florence) Allender of Mt. Pleasant and many other relatives and friends.

George Blythe Died Friday At Local Hospital

Funeral services for George S. Blythe were held on Monday, January 24, 1977 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church. Rev. Leslie Kuiper was officiating clergyman.

Music was given by a men's quartet, Claus G. Primus, Willis Bakker, Harvey Eiten and Alfred Eiten accompanied by Mrs. Claus G. Primus. Miss Elizabeth Eekhoff was organist.

Flower attendants were Mrs. Willis Bakker and Mrs. Edwin Bakker.

Pall bearers were Gary Blythe, Mark Blythe, Danny Blythe, Dan Dietch, Kevin Vry and Kendall Vry.

Interment was made in the First Christian Reformed Church cemetery. Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
