Benjamin Hook Services Held

Benjamin Hook, 81, of Wellsburg, passed away Sunday, January 12, at his home in Wellsburg of natural causes.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 15, at the Second Christian Reformed Church in Wellsburg. Burial followed in Shiloh Cemetery in Wellsburg.

A memorial fund has been established.

Ben was born on September 20, 1915, in Shiloh Township, Grundy County, the son of Ben H. and Maggie (Lutterman) Hook. In 1933, he graduated from Wellsburg High School and then went on to Normal College in Cedar Falls and then on to business school in Quincy, Illinois.

On April 10, 1941, he was united in marriage to Hazel Smith in Lutheran Parsonage in Holland. She survives. Ben served as the Grundy County Assessor from 1962 to 1980 and farmed to the present. He was a member of the National Association of Assessors, had served on the school board, a community club member, was on the consistory at the Second Christian Reformed Church in Wellsburg, and was on the Board for Friendship Village.

Benjamin is survived by his wife Hazel of Wellsburg; 1 daughter, Mardean Albers Willis and her husband Don of Wellsburg; 1 son, Paul Hook and his wife Cynthia of Minnetonka, Minnesota; 1 sister, Alene Huddleston Renner of Sun City, Florida; 8 grandchildren, James and Michael Albers, Rhonda Myers, Jesse and Jennifer Willis, Matthew, Martin and Maggie Hook; 6 great-grandchildren, Amber, Coty, and Shawn Albers and Jordan, Braxton and Trenton Myers.

Ben is preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Herman, Gerald and Lester Hook; and 3 sisters, Rena deNeui, Grace Ross and Gertrude Ornduff Heaslip.

Doyen-Abels Funeral Home, Wellsburg, was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
