Roy deNeui Services Held

Roy deNeui, 90, of Wellsburg, passed away on Monday, April 7, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center of natural causes.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 10, at 2:30 p.m. at Christ Covenant Church, Wellsburg, with Pastor Douglas Holmes officiating. Interment was in the Shiloh Cemetery, Wellsburg.

Pallbearers were Bryce Strasser, Lary Riebkes, Brent Strasser, Richard VanMill, Karna Parker and John Ruter. Honorary pallbearers were David Parker, Monica Strasser and Marne Strasser.

Roy was born on January 5, 1907, the son of Johannes and Catherine (Jaspers) deNeui on the family farm in Shiloh Township, Grundy County. He attended Shiloh #2 School and Wellsburg High School.

On February 6, 1935, he was united in marriage with Emma Ruter in Dubuque. To this union was born one daughter, Rhoda Evon. Roy and Emma farmed for 55 years on the same farm, northwest of Wellsburg. Roy was an avid golfer and bowler and enjoyed woodworking.

He was a lifelong member of the Second Christian Reformed Church and served on the consistory for 17 years. He also served 17 years on the Shiloh Cemetery board and on the Board of Directors of Meadowbrook Golf Course for 9 years.

Survivors include his wife, Emma of Wellsburg; daughter, Rhoda Strasser of Lennox, South Dakota; 3 grandchildren, Karna Parker and husband David of Paris, Texas, Bryce Strasser and wife Marne of Lennox, South Dakota, and Brent Strasser and wife Monica of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, 2 brothers, Ernest deNeui and wife Vera of Wellsburg and Herman deNeui and wife Pauline of Cedar Rapids; and 1 sister-in-law, Clara deNeui of Wellsburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Kerwin Strasser in 1992; 3 brothers, Abe, Jay and John; and 2 sisters, Floy Bergman and Fannie Kannegieter.

Doyen-Abels Funeral Home, Wellsburg, was in charge of the arrangements.
