Old grandfather Bloxham died at his home in the east part of town last Sunday, Nov. 18, 1894. He had been in feeble health for a number of years and for a long time was patiently resigned to go. Daniel Bloxham was born in Wiggington, Oxford-shire, England, January 23, 1813. He came to Buffalo, New York in 1836, and was married to Mary Ann McEwin in 1840. He came to Chickasaw county, Iowa, in 1856. He served in the late war and was a member of the Sixth Iowa Cavalry. Was in the service two years and eight months and made for himself a worthy record in defense of his country's flag. After the war had closed he came with his family to Grundy county in 1866, and located on what was then a wild prairie farm. By dint of economy and hard work he accumulated considerable of wealth and his acres multiplied and his stock increased till he was able in his old age to retire from his farm, which he did a number of years ago and moved to Grundy Center. The pleasures of a retired life were of short duration as he was soon called upon to mourn the loss of his wife who had faithfully helped him to endure the hardships of a pioneer life. In later years he married again and leaves his widow and five children to mourn his death. He died at the ripe age of eighty-one years, nine months and twenty-six days. He was a kind and devoted husband and father, a peaceful and respected citizen and a faithful friend. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the M. E. church, conducted by Rev. Smith who was assisted by Rev. Morphy. A large number of friends were in attendance. The G. A. R. lodge of which he was a member, furnished the pall bearers.
