Mrs. Bertha Raymond Yates died at her home in Janesville, Wis., July 19, 1893. She was born in Boone county, Illinois, January 17, 1857, and was educated in the district school of her native town and at Sharon academy. For some years she devoted herself to teaching in her native state and in the public schools of Grundy Center and Eldora, being made assistant principal. On August 15, 1879, she was married to Charles F. Yates, and settled in Sharon, Wis., where her husband was engaged in the drug business. Afterward they removed to Palmyra, and thence to Janesville where the last few years of her life were spent. Always unmindful of self and kindly thoughtful of others, she often overtaxed her strength and took upon herself burdens which she was not well able to hear. At length her frail constitution yielded to the stern touch of disease and she passed away leaving her husband and three children, many family relatives and many friends to mourn her early removal. In early life she consecrated herself to the service of her Savior and became a member of the Baptist church and honored her profession ever after by a devoted Christian life. Atmost her last words were: "Do not weep for me I am going home." Well has it been said "earth is losing and heaven gaining by its loss." It remains for those who survive to the "followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises."--Janesville (Wis.) Gazette
