Rosa Ellen Whitney was born near Cedar Falls, Black Hawk county, Iowa, April 14, 1874. Four years later her parents moved to their present home in Beaver township, Grundy county, where she lived until her marriage to Willis F. Hemmerling, May 31, 1894. She received her schooling at a country school district No. 1 Beaver township, through the agency of many different teachers. She was always a faithful pupil, showing considerable talent in her studies and receiving the approbation of both class mates and teachers. She received her diploma and certificate of graduation from the schools of Grundy county in the year 1893. Rosa joined the Methodist Episcopal church when about seventeen years of age and has since ever been an active and faithful worker for Christ. After her marriage to Willis F. Hemmerling she lived on the farm of F. M. Hemmerling near Dairyville until her death. She bore her last illness with patience and with no fear of death. Thus she passed away at 2:30 p.m. on March 16, leaving friends and relatives not to mourn her death only, but with the assurance of meeting her in heaven where she ever hoped to shine as a star in her Lord's crown of glory.
