Died, in Washington township, Mrs. Johanna Harms Wumkes, wife of Fred L. Ries, Friday, September 7th, 1894, aged 74 years, 8 months and 25 days. Mrs. Ries was born in Germany; was married in 1846 and was the mother of seven children, four of whom were present at the funeral services which were held from the family residence on Sunday afternoon. Rev. W. H. Jordan of the Presbyterian church conducted the services and despite the heavy rain a large number of friends attended the remains to the cemetery west of Grundy Center.
