William Henry Green was born in Southbridge, Mass., July 28, 1853. He lived in the New England states until 1869, at which time he, with his parents, came west and settled in Cedar Falls, Iowa. In 1873 he went back to Massachusetts and worked for his uncle in the furniture business until 1876, then came to Iowa again. In 1877 he went into company with Edward Townsend of Cedar Falls, and engaged in the grain business at Grundy Center, Iowa, where he continued business until 1884, when he moved his elevator to Hardy, Humboldt county, Iowa. There he continued in the grain, coal, lumber, hay, banking, and general merchandise business until the 22nd day of June, 1892, when, according to evidence, he took his own life by the use of a revolver. Seeing that we know not what he had to contend with, let us throw the veil of charity over his last sad act that ended a life so highly cherished by many relatives and friends. He was married April 9th, 1878, to Miss Sarah C. Leonard of Southbridge, Mass., who, with three children, two girls and one boy, survive to mourn his loss.
