Died, at his home in Orthell township, Hancock county, Iowa, at 12:30 p.m., on Sunday, January 29th, 1893, Thomas Gray, Sr., at the age of 61 years.

Mr. Thomas Gray was born in Lanarkshire, Scotland, September 5th, 1832, and removed to America in 1873. He was united to Miss Agnes Fraser April 24th, 1854. Mr. Gray resided for some five or six years in and near Grundy Center, but since that time has resided in Hancock county, Iowa, in the vicinity of Wesley. He had been in poor health for many years, being afflicted with chronic bronchitis and a complication of other troubles, which caused his death. He leaves a bereaved family consisting of his wife and five children. Wm. Gray, at one time editor of the Grundy County Republican, afterward a clerk in the pension department at Washington, D.C.; R. F. Gray, president of the Marion Junction bank, Marion, South Dakota; Thomas Gray, Jr., a prominent dealer in stock at Wesley; Robert Gray, who resides on his farm near Wesley, and Mrs. J. C. Rice of Grundy Center. The funeral was held in the M. E. church, Tuesday, January 31st, and was conducted by the Rev. Eastman, who preached a very able and instructive sermon. The funeral was largely attended although the weather was very inclement. Mr. Gray was greatly loved and respected by all who knew him. His bereaved family is greatly comforted by the fact that he was a faithful and consistent member of the Presbyterian church, and departed this life with the full assurance of that reward which awaits every faithful and sincere christian; and his friends and family feel that while he has entered upon that journey which all must tread at last with unreturning steps, and while they will see his face on earth no more, they will, if faithful, meet in the reunion which is promised that time to come when parting shall be no more. The bereaved family have the sympathy of all in their sad affliction.
