EEKHOFF, REIKENS, NEDERHOFF

Henry "Harold" Eekhoff, 92, of Wellsburg, Iowa, died from heart failure at his home in Wellsburg on Sunday, February 6, 2011 while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Memorial services will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at the First Christian Reformed Church near Wellsburg with Pastor Tom Vos officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery at 10:30 am, prior to the memorial service on Thursday. Visitation will be at the church from 5 pm to 8 pm on Wednesday and from 9:30 am until 10:30 on Thursday.

Harold was born August 24, 1918, on a farm southwest of Wellsburg, son of Henry P. and Louise (Reikens) Eekhoff. At the age of five Harold moved with his family to Kanawha where he was educated in country school. Harold committed his life to the Lord and remained a faithful servant of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

He worked at the John Deere store for a couple of years then entered the Army in 1942. He fought in 3 major battles in North Africa and was wounded by a land mine on March 28, 1943. He was honorably medically discharged in September of 1943 being awarded the Purple Heart.

On August 30, 1945 he was united in marriage to Ordie H. Nederhoff. Harold and Ordie farmed for a year near Steamboat Rock, Iowa before moving to a farm northeast of Wellsburg in 1947. They farmed for over 40 years moving into the town of Wellsburg in 1987. They are the parents of Ellen, David, Nancy, and Henry.

He was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church where he served on the church council and a member of the Men's Forum for many years. He served on the board of Timothy Christian School for eight years, Dordt College Board, and on the Pleasant Valley Township Committee. He enjoyed retirement, woodworking, golfing with his buddies, coffee times, family gatherings and board games.

He is survived by his wife, Ordie; children, Ellen (Willie) Bosma of Harris, Iowa, David (Peg) Eekhoff of Sioux Center, Iowa, Nancy (Dean) Huisman of Wellsburg and Henry (Kathy) Eekhoff of Manhattan, Montana; brother, George (Helen) Eekhoff of Kanawha, Paul (Jenny) Eekhoff of Kanawha and Harlan (Delores) Eekhoff of Britt; by 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; and in-laws, Viola Eekhoff, Dorothy Eekhoff, Florence Nederhoff, Rodney Deters, Carl H. and Kate Nederhoff, and Donna Blythe.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Peter, John and Ray Eekhoff; sister, Ada Assink; grandson Eric Eekhoff, and great-grandsons, Riley Bosma and Quinn Winterfeld.
