Genevieve J. Paterni, 89, of Wellsburg, Iowa, died Sunday, February 6, 2011, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 10, 2011, at Wellsburg Reformed Church in Wellsburg, Iowa. Burial will follow at Wellsburg Reformed Church Cemetery in Wellsburg with Pastor Michael Weaver officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 9, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Genevieve was born April 27, 1921, in Melrose Township, Grundy County, the daughter of Henry J. and Anna J.(Olthoff) Paterni. Genevieve attended Melrose #7 through the eighth grade and then Conrad High School graduating in 1937. She grew up and lived in Grundy County her whole life. After high school Gen worked for the Telephone office in Wellsburg, she worked for Dr. Rolfes in Aplington and Hook Store in Wellsburg and Reinbeck. Gen was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church in Wellsburg, Iowa. Gen enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, gardening, sewing, knitting, cooking and playing cards with her friends. She spent a lot of time in the raspberry patch and was always giving them away. Her tea rusk and dried apricot pie were a special treat to her loved ones. In her younger years she enjoyed traveling with friends. Babysitting Kim was a real blessing to her life. She spent many years taking care of her mother. Family events were a special highlight in her life.
Genevieve is survived by her two nieces- Beverly (Larry) Lindeman and Connie (Sidney) Penning; great nieces and nephews, Lori (Karl) Uhlenhopp, Matthew (Jan) Lindeman, Anita (Dave) Osman and Kristy (David) Jahraus; 7 great-great nieces and nephews, Richard and Ellie Uhlenhopp, Katie, Sarah and Abbie Lindeman, Elise and Connor Osman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Lena Hook, Sadie Paterni and one in infancy.
