Died, at Hartley, Texas, Friday, September 30, 1892, Susan, wife of Gottlob Essig, aged 29 years, 11 months and 4 days.

The subject of this obituary was the daughter of Henry P. and Mariah Strickler and was born in Carroll county, Ill., October 26, 1862. She with her parents emigrated to Melrose township, Grundy county, Iowa, in 1867, where she grew to womanhood. In March, 1880, she married Mr. Gottlob Essig, with whom she remained as a faithful companion until death. She was the mother of two children. Mrs. Essig, with her husband and family, removed to Texas in 1889. She was sick but a short time until God, the alwise healer, saw fit to call her to her Heavenly home, which was waiting for her. Although she leaves behind dear parents, brothers and sisters, a kind husband and loving children, she is resting in peace, where there will be no more sorrow, and where she is earnestly waiting for her loved ones to come. She made friends wherever she went, and how heart-breaking it was when the news came that she was dead. The remains arrived at the house of the deceased's brother, Daniel Strickler, Wednesday, October 5, and the funeral occurred Thursday, October 6, from the residence of Daniel Sheller in Melrose. A large concourse of relatives and friends followed the remains to its last resting place in the Sheller cemetery. From there departure was made to the German Baptist church, where the funeral services were held, conducted by Elder Joseph Holder, of Indiana. The entire community extend their sympathy to the bereaved husband, parents, brothers and sisters, and especially to the dear little children in Texas.
