Rena Bergman of the Maple Manor Care Center, Aplington, Iowa, formerly of Dike, Iowa, was born the daughter of Harm and Fannie Kalkwarf Konken on October 27, 1900, in Grundy County near Stout, Iowa. As an infant, she received Holy Baptism at the Reformed Church of Stout, Stout, Iowa. Rena completed her education in a rural school near her home.
On May 30, 1923, Rena was united in marriage with Hillerd Bergman in the parsonage of the Reformed Church of Stout. After they were married, they lived and farmed south of Dike, Iowa, until they retired and moved to Dike. Rena moved to the Maple Manor Care Center in Aplington, Iowa, on January 4, 1980. She was a member of the Reformed Church of Stout. Rena enjoyed visiting with her family and friends and participating in the activities at the Care Center, especially ceramics.
On Sunday, June 8, 1997, at 2:10 a.m., Rena Bergman died at the Maple Manor Care Center, Aplington, Iowa, from natural causes. She attained the age of 96 years, 7 months and 12 days. Rena was preceded in death by: her husband Hillerd Bergman, 1969; one son, Edward Bergman, 1940; four brothers, John, Henry, Sam and Harm Konken; and five sisters, Sena Akkerman, Carrie Wiltfang, Florence Cirksena, Fannie Hempen and Grace Helmer.
Rena is survived by: one son, William and his wife Carrie Bergman, Dike, Iowa; one grandson, Brain Bergman and his wife, Christy, Wichita, KS; one foster grandson, Kendall Buskohl and his wife, Jan; two foster great-grandchildren, Shannon and Matthew Buskohl, all of Cedar Falls, Iowa, one step-great-grandson, Chance Wilkenson, Wichita, KS.
