George John Sietsema, Sr. was born Jan 31, 1880 in the Netherlands, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Sietsema. He came to this country as a young boy and spent the early part of his life in the Aplington community.

He was united in marriage to Gertie Haan on Feb. 24, 1904 in Butler County, Iowa. They farmed north of Wellsburg and in 1941 moved to their present home in Wellsburg.

He was a faithful member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church. On Nov. 23, 1952, he was received as a member of the Reformed Church on Confession of Faith.

On Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1970, he passed away at his home. He reached the age of 90 years, 10 months and 28 days.

Mr. Sietsema leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Gertie, 5 sons, John, Edward, Herman, George, all of Wellsburg, and Harvey of Des Moines; also 3 daughters, (Jennie) Mrs. Arend Fisher of Steamboat Rock, (Mathilda) Mrs. Neil Okones of Wellsburg; and (Esther) Mrs. Edward Mennenga of Steamboat Rock. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one sister and one brother.

Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 1, 1971 in the Doyen Funeral Home at 1 p.m. and at 1:30 p.m. at the Wellsburg Reformed Church. Rev. Gideon Wolbrink was officiating clergyman. Music was furnished by Mrs. Elmer Ruter and Mrs. Harold Okones who sang two duet numbers. Allen Ruter was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Fred Eiten and Mrs. Jessie Eiten. Pall bearers were Carroll Stahl, Ronald Fisher, Lee Okones, Neil Okones Jr., Douglas Sietsema and Robert Ammann. Interment was made in the Wellsburg Reformed Church cemetery.

We wish to thank all our relatives, friends and neighbors for the many cards, flowers, food, memorials, also Rev. Wolbrink for his comforting words, for the music and any other acts of sympathy shown to us following the loss of our dear one. We also wish to thank all those who in any way remembered our dear one during his days of illness. Your thoughtfulness has been very gratefully received.
