Services Held For Edward Mennenga

Edward Mennenga, of rural Steamboat Rock, passed away on Wednesday, April 19, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. He attained the age of 71 years, eight months, and 18 days.

Funeral services were held at the Second Christian Reformed Church, Wellsburg, on Saturday, April 22, at 10 a.m., with Pastor John Frey officiating.

The accompanist was Mrs. LuRay Neessen, who played selected number for the prelude and postlude.

Casket bearers were Paul Primus, Dr. Colin Gould, Eugene Ruter, Neil Okones, Lee Okones, and Harlyn Riekena.

Ushers were Kenneth Bunger and Herman Groote. Mae Gould, Marie Akkerman, and Jen Elliott were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Interment was in the First Christian Reformed Church Cemetery, rural Wellsburg.

Edward G. Mennenga was born August 1, 1917, on the Mennenga family farm in Shiloh township, Grundy county. He was the son of Obbo and Fredericka Riekena Mennenga. Ed attended Shiloh #4 country school and the Steamboat Rock High School.

On March 12, 1937, Ed was united in marriage to Esther Sietsema at the First Christian Reformed Church Parsonage, rural Wellsburg. On March 12, of this year, they celebrated 52 years of marriage. Ed was born and lived his entire life on the same farm. He retired from farming several years ago because of failing health.

He was a past Shiloh township trustee.

For the past several years, he and his wife, Esther, had wintered in Sun City, AZ.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Johanna Kruse.

He is survived by his wife, Esther, of rural Steamboat Rock; three children, Gary Mennenga, Litchfield Park, AZ, Karen Ammann, Saratoga, WY, and Curtis Kruse, of Mercer Island, WA; and five grandchildren, Scott and Robert Ammann, Tracie and Chad Mennenga, and Dean Kruse.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
