SFC Ronald L. Aswegan, 51, of Little Falls, Minn. died Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999, at the St. Cloud Hospital.

Services will be 12 p.m. Wednesday at the Alice Church of God near Conrad. Burial will be in the Alice Church of God Cemetery, near Conrad. Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls is in charge of arrangements.

He was born on Nov. 20, 1948, in Des Moines to Albert and Clara Pearl (Harris) Aswegan. He grew up and attended school in Eldora. He entered the U.S. Army and served from May 1968 until his honorable discharge in January 1973. During that time, he served 16 months in Germany and 11 months in Vietnam. Upon his discharge he returned to Iowa and worked in various jobs.

He married Cheryl J. Schroeder on May 31, 1975, in New Providence. They lived in Eldora from 1976 to 1991. He worked for the State of Iowa in Eldora at the Training School for Boys as a maintenance repair man.

He joined the Iowa National Guard in November 1989 and served until July 1993, when he transferred to the Minnesota Army National Guard. In 1993, they relocated to Aiken, Minn. where he worked for the 3M Company in Foley and then in Milaca. In 1995, he became a full-time member of the 175th Regional Training Institute at Camp Ripley, Minn. They relocated to Little Falls in June 1998.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl; a daughter, Cathy Aswegan at home; his mother Pearl Aswegan of Melbourne; four brothers, Gene (Dottie) of Des Moines; Al Jr. (Pat) of Aikin, Dale (Linda) of Denver, Colo., and Jim (Janet) of Wabash, Ind.; and four sisters, Gladys (Mrs. Rick) Eveland of Des Moines, Betty (Mrs. David) Ellenwood of Fredericksburg, Va., Clara (Mrs. Pat) Lawler of Bravois Mill, Mo. and Virginia (Mrs. Jack) Scoonover of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his father, Albert; two brothers, Earl and Donald; an infant sister, Barbara Aswegan; and all his grandparents.
