Edgar M. Moats, 68, of RR2, Eldora, died at the Mercy hospital in Des Moines Friday, April 1, 1977 at 11:55 a.m. following heart surgery.

A private family graveside committal service was held at the Sheller cemetery west of Grundy Center Monday morning at 10 a.m. A memorial service in the Ivester Church of the Brethren was held that afternoon at 1:30. Rev. Alan Kieffaber officiated. Mrs. Howard Sheller and Mrs. John Dinnes sang "In The Garden". They were accompanied by Mrs. Howard Cakerice who also played selected prelude and postlude numbers.

Floral attendants were Mrs. Raymond Kirkdorffer, Mrs. Donald Butler and Mrs. Lee Hogle. Ushers were Clarence Slifer, Donald Butler and Lloyd Draper.

He was born September 26, 1908 near Grundy Center, Iowa, the son of Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Moats. Edgar was raised and lived in Grundy county all his life. On August 12, 1933, near Ivester, he was united in marriage to Marie Smith. They spent all of their married life in Grundy county, and he semi-retired in 1971. He was a member of the Ivester Church of the Brethren.

Survivors include his mother, Mrs. S. E. Moats of Grundy Center, his wife, Marie, one daughter, Mrs. Lyle (Marlene) Neher of RR1, Grundy Center, three sons, Dean of RR4, Knoxville, Marvin of Conrad and Vernon of Des Moines, also one brother, Glen Moats, RR1, Grundy Center, two sisters, Mrs. D. L. (Isabelle) Nuckolls of Paton, Iowa, and Mrs. Eldon (Cecele) Ferguson of Spirit Lake; also 10 grandchildren.

Arrangements were in charge of the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home. A memorial fund has been established.
