A. S. Moats Dies At Eldora Hospital

Alfred S. Moats, who spent the greater share of his life on a farm in Melrose township, died at the hospital in Eldora at 5:30 Friday morning. He was taken to the hospital two days before. He had for some time been afflicted with diabetes and Bright's disease. He would have been 68 years old had he lived until the 25th of this month.

Funeral services were held at the home Monday afternoon and later at the Ivester church. Rev. Keim officiated at the service. Burial was in the Ivester cemetery on Tuesday. Burial was delayed a day to await the arrival of the son Earl from Alaska who had not been home for 15 years. He took a plane from Alaska after he was notified of his father's death. There was delay enroute due to bad weather which made it impossible to be here at the time of the funeral service.

A Native of Maryland
Mr. Moats was born near Hagerstown, Maryland. At the age of 12, with an older brother Elias, he came to Grundy county, Iowa, and worked on a farm. 44 years ago he and Jessie Strickler were married. They lived on a Melrose township farm until two years ago when they moved to Eldora.

Surviving are the wife, three sons and three daughters. The sons are Earl, Leo, Grundy Center, and Millard of Melrose township. The daughters are Mrs. Walter Daleske, Steamboat Rock, Mrs. Evert Foster, Eldora, Mrs. John Large, Melrose township. There are nine grandchildren. Other surviving relatives are four brothers and two sisters. All of these excepting Elias, reside in Maryland.
