Services for Cecil Kinney, 72, Eldora, who died Wednesday, Jan. 2 at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center, were Saturday afternoon at Creps-Abels Funeral Home, Eldora. Burial was in the Sheller Cemetery in Grundy County.

He was born Sept. 11, 1918 in Grundy County to Irvin and Nellie Sweet Kinney. He attended school in Grundy and Hardin counties.

He married Lamoille Duncan in Marshalltown June 30, 1939. He worked in the vinegar works factory at Marshalltown and then at Fisher Controls. He also operated Kinney's Jack Sprat Store in Owasa. He drove the Owasa school bus and AEA 6 Head Start school bus. He also helped organize the Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Department. He also served on the Owasa Town Council for many years.

From 1960 to 1971, he operated Kinney's Recreational Parlor in Eldora. He also worked at the Iowa State Training School, retiring in 1983.

He was a member of the American Legion and the United Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Allan, New Providence and Russell, Eldora; a daughter, Linda Vanderhart, Des Moines; six grandchildren; a step-grandchild; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Leona Lackey, Eldora.

He was preceded in death by a sister.
