David Brown was born in Cumberland county, Pennsylvania, January 3rd, 1803. In 1825 he was united in the holy bonds of matrimony to Hannah Flangher, and shortly after this event the couple moved to Mahoning county, Ohio, where they lived for forty years. They moved to Grundy county, Iowa, in 1870. On June 21, 1876, the wife was called home, and a happy union of over fifty years was broken. To this couple six children, three girls and three boys, were born, four of whom are still living. In his late sickness, which lasted twelve weeks, he had the pleasure of having three of the children at his bedside a greater part of the time to administer to his wants, and all that loving hands could do was done for him. The son who was unable to be present is a resident of Ohio. He was perfectly conscious up to the hour of his death, which was caused by the wearing out of the physical powers. The funeral was held from the Presbyterian church at Melrose and was in charge of Rev. Cakerice, who delivered an appropriate sermon.
