Rolly Aiken, Age 95, Dies
R. O. (Rolly) Aiken passed away at 1:01 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, at the Beverly Manor Convalescent Center, Grundy center.
Graveside committal services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 15, at the Sheller Cemetery, rural Grundy Center. Rev. Theodore Ertle of the First Baptist Church in Grundy Center officiated.
Mr. Aiken was born on January 31, 1889 in Melrose Township, Grundy County, the son of Ira Olin and Minnie Barber Aiken. He attained the age of 95 years, one month, and 13 days. He grew up around Grundy Center.
On January 29, 1914, at her parent's home, he was united in marriage to Vida Fern Crouse. They lived in the Ivester area until they moved to Grundy Center in 1929. He had worked on various farms in the Grundy Center area.
He was a member of the Ivester Church of the Brethren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife on August 11, 1939, one brother and one grandson.
He is survived by three sons, Homer of Everett, WA, Harold of Monticello, AR, and Rolly of Big Rock, IL; five daughters, Mrs. Marjorie Holeman of rural Grundy Center, Mrs. Mildred Morrison of Riverside, CA, Mrs. Miriam Henry of Grand Island, NE, Mrs. Marillyn Akkerman of Rancho Mirage, CA, and Mrs. Merna Schoenfield Wood of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada; one sister, Mrs. Grace Burnett of Hourston, TX; one brother-in-law, Ray Crouse of Conrad; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Byrd Aiken of Marshalltown; 21 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the arrangements.
