Bernita Newell, 86, of Grundy Center, Iowa, died Friday, December 17, 2010, at Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center, Iowa while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Funeral Services will be held 12:00 noon on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center, Iowa, with Pastor Cal Turner Officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Burial will be held privately at Washington Township Cemetery south of Morrison, Iowa.

Bernita Elaine Newell (nee Goble) was born on December 20, 1923; the daughter and only child of Albert Goble and Gladys J. McCulloch Goble. She attended school in Morrison, Iowa and graduated from Reinbeck High School. She furthered her education at AIB in Des Moines. She was employed as a legal secretary by many attorneys in Waterloo, Iowa.

On November 24, 1946 she was united in marriage to Dean Newell. They made their home in Cedar Falls, Iowa and welcomed two sons into their family. David Albert was born in January of 1950 and Dennis Eugene was born in August of 1952. Dennis entered into rest in June of 1972 and Dean entered into rest in February of 1977.

She attended the First Baptist Church in Reinbeck, until she was no longer able to drive.

Bernita is survived by her son David, of Deming, New Mexico and numerous cousins and second-cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and son.
