Harlan Lavern “Hike” Heikens, 78, died March 21, 2009, at the McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond.

He was born in Wellsburg, a son of the late Harry and Dena Heikens. Hike was a U. S. Air Force veteran, former owner of Heikens Well Company, and a member of the Suffolk Moose Lodge. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Pearl Schick Heikens; three sons, Randy Heikens of Franklin, Timmy Heikens and wife, Ann, of Courtland, and Robert Heikens of Nags Head, N.C.; one sister, Beverly H. Hatcher; and three brothers, Marvin, Don, and Jim Heikens, all of Iowa; and four grandchildren, Racheal, Dillon, Desty, and Camryn Heikens.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 26, at the Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dennis D. Buchholz officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow at Southampton Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church.
