Samuel K. Gooden, 78, of Dike died December 22, 2008, at the Western Home in Cedar Falls. Memorial services were January 7, at the Dike United Methodist Church in Dike. Burial was in the Reinbeck cemetery.

Sam was born July 14, 1930, at Conway, Ark., son of Orville T. Gooden and Settie Knapp Gooden. He married Ruth Ann Bern in 1983. He graduated from the University of Arkansas and Iowa State College. He served in the United States Navy, worked for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, farmed and was the Director of the Grundy County Conservation Board before retirement in 1994.

He is survived by wife Ruth Ann Gooden; one son, William J. Gooden (Linda) and two granddaughters of San Antonio, Texas; two brothers, Richard O. Gooden (Chris) of Ft. Myers, Fla., and James T. Gooden (Jane) of Edmond, Okla.; five step-children, David Bern (Kaylene), Kenneth Bern, Michael Bern, Daniel Bern (Tammy) and Kathryn Bern (Judith); nine step-grandchildren; and 10 step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Robert E. Gooden.
