John E. Itzen, 91, of Cedar Falls died December 11, 2008, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo. Funeral services were December 15 at Orchard Hill Church in Cedar Falls, with burial at Holland Cemetery in Holland. Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49 conducted military honors. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or Orchard Hill Church Cup of Cold Water Fund.

He was born July 8, 1917 in Grundy Center, the son of John E. and Gertrude (Kruger) Itzen. John married Iva Dean Heronimus on August 21, 1946, in Holland. John served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was a pipe fitter at the University of Northern Iowa for 22 years. He was a member of Orchard Hill Church and Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. John was also a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include his wife, Iva Dean, of Cedar Falls; his daughter, Beverly J. (John) Landa, of Sallisaw, Okla.; and his grandchildren, Matthew Landa of Sallisaw, Okla., Megan (Nick) Bayer of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Cassie Landa of Edmond, Okla.

John was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Klass Itzen and a brother in infancy; and six sisters, Fannie Hasbrouck, Berdene Finke, Hermine Bergman, Louise Harken, Margaret Meyer, and a sister in infancy.
