ECKHOFF, Bertha 1922-2008

ECKHOFF, ARENDS, VANDYK

Bertha Eckhoff, age 85, of Parkersburg died June 3, 2008, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, of injuries sustained in the May 25 tornado in Parkersburg. Funeral services were June 7 at the First Reformed Church in Aplington. Officiating the services was Pastor Harlan De Jong. Interment was at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg.

Bertha was born the daughter of Hilko and Flossie Arends Van Dyk, Sr. on July 7, 1922, in Austinville. She attended school near her home. Bertha was united in marriage with Egbert Eckhoff on January 8, 1947, at Pastor Koenen’s home near Bethel Reformed Church, Aplington. The couple made their home in Austinville, Ackley and Reinbeck. They later moved to Aplington and back to Reinbeck where Bertha worked at Plastronics in Grundy Center in the 1960s. In 1987, they moved into their home in Parkersburg. Bertha cleaned homes in Cedar Falls and Reinbeck. Bertha was a long-time member of First Reformed Church in Aplington where she attended faithfully.

Bertha is survived by two sons, Alan (Cherie) Eckhoff, Reinbeck and Alvin (Bonnie) Eckhoff, Robins; four daughters, Shirley (Chuck) Wolf, Cedar Falls, Sylvia (Judd) Lyons, Grundy Center, Eunice Burkybile, Joplin, Mo.; and Esther (Brian) Mixdorf, Holland; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Herm (Bernie) Everts, Parkersburg; and one sister-in-law, Alice Van Dyk, Cedar Falls.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Egbert Eckhoff, on January 3, 2005; her parents; and two brothers, Hilko Van Dyk and Kenneth Van Dyk.
