Elvin "Curly" Juhl, 94, of Reinbeck, passed away on Friday, September 10, 2010 at Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell, Iowa. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 10:30 am at the United Church of Christ in Reinbeck with Pastor Joel Love officiating. Burial will follow the memorial services at the Reinbeck Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 13, 2010 5 to 7 pm at the French Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck with a Masonic Service at 6:30 P.M. conducted by Masonic Coin Lodge 394 of Reinbeck. Memorials may be made to the Reinbeck Fire Department or Masonic Coin Lodge 394 of Reinbeck in Curly's name.
Curly was born on April 5, 1916 in Reinbeck, Iowa, the son of Martin and Lillian (Schmidt) Juhl. He was raised in Reinbeck and attended the Reinbeck Community Schools. On November 14, 1942, Curly was united in marriage to Minnie Snittjer in Missouri. After the two were married, Curly and Minnie both worked at a shipyard in Portland, Oregon during World War II. After the war they made their home in Reinbeck. Curly owned and operated a Plumbing and Heating business for over 34years until his retirement. Curly spent the winters in McAllen Texas for 32 years. Curly was an avid sportsman and especially loved to camp, fish, dance, play cards and golf. He was a member of the United Congregational Church of Christ in Reinbeck and was member of the Masonic Coin Lodge 394 of Reinbeck, Oak Leaf Country Club, where he shot a hole in one at the age of 90 and the Elks Club in McAllen, TX.
Surviving Curly are his daughter-in-law; Sandra Juhl of Grinnell; three grandchildren, Jason (Sarah) Juhl of Edmond, OK, Jackie (Dave) Harris of Grinnell, Jamie (Dan) Kirby of Cedar Falls; six great grandchildren, Clayton, Macy, Leah Harris, Ethan, Sawyer and Brodie Kirby; and one brother, Everett of Cedar Falls.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Minnie; son Randy; and his brothers and sisters.
