Florence Helen Schildroth, 89, passed away Monday, June 21, 2010, at Covenant Medical Center after a brief illness due to congestive heart failure. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, June 28, 2010 at the United Methodist Church, Reinbeck, IA. Burial will follow the funeral service at Reinbeck Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, June 27, 2010 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at French-Hand Funeral Home, Reinbeck. Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church.

Florence was born in rural Grundy County, October 30, 1920, the daughter of Harry T. and Alta Pearl (Taylor) Adair. She attended public school in Reinbeck and graduated from Dike High School with the class of 1938. She was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church and very active in all aspects of the life of the church, including all roles in the women’s society.

She met her life partner at youth fellowship, dated, (including a memorable movie night seeing “Gone with the Wind” in its original version) and later married Donald Schildroth on March 18, 1941 in Crystal Township, Tama County. They farmed together in Grundy and Tama counties until moving into Reinbeck upon retirement. Florence was an active participant in the farming operation and she and Don worked side-by-side throughout their lives together. She was a farm wife who anticipated what needed to be done outside while managing the home life of an active family as well. All was accomplished without complaint and always with time to listen, encourage or console others.

Florence enjoyed her family most, supporting their interests and activities in any way possible. When time permitted, she did woodworking and re-finishing, made latch hook rugs and assembled countless puzzles. The Reinbeck Library provided her with hours of reading pleasure and until recently, she mowed the lawn and cared for her flower garden. Florence worked hard and enjoyed being busy. As she adjusted to her easier life at Westview Estates and the supportive family there, she often commented that she had “never had it so good.” One of Florence’s best traits was her easy laughter. It brightened many days for those who knew and loved her.

Florence is survived by her husband, Donald Schildroth of Reinbeck, IA; her children Mark (Dixie) Schildroth of Reinbeck, IA, Melvin (Janet) Schildroth of Reinbeck, IA and Jane (Peter Jaynes) Schildroth of Cedar Rapids; her brothers Merlin (Jeannette) Adair and Frank (Floriss) Adair; her grandchildren Todd (Beth) Schildroth, Christine (Aaron) Sannes, Scott (Chris) Schildroth, Jodi (Kevin) Michael and Devon Lovell and her great-grandchildren, Sami, Ashley and Lilly Schildroth, Jack, Drew and Chase Sannes, Jill and Jenny Schildroth, Shannon and Paige Kromas.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Dale Adair, who died in infancy, and Harry M. Adair and her sister M. Maxene Adair.
