Gary L. Andersen, 66, of Dike, passed away on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center, Iowa while under the care of the Cedar Valley Hospice. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, November 7, 2009 at Fredsville Evangelical Lutheran Church in rural Cedar Falls, Iowa with Pastor Don Feurhak officiating. Interment will follow at Fredsville Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Cedar Falls. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 6th from 4 to 7 P.M. at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Dike with a Masonic Service at 6:30 P.M. A memorial fund has been established.
Gary was born on April 27, 1943 in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the son of Erhart and Agnes (Sloth) Andersen. He attended school in Dike, graduating from Dike High School in 1961. He was united in marriage to Marcia Dieken on February 10, 1962 at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church in Holland, IA. Gary retired from Omega Cabinets. He was a member of the Danish Brotherhood of Dike, a Past Master of Honor Lodge 646, member of the Dike Lion's Club, Dike School Board Member and past president, Fredsville Lutheran Church Council Member. He was an avid sports and Hawkeye fan, he loved playing golf and taking fishing trips to Canada.
He is survived by his wife Marcia of Dike; children Greg Andersen of Eldora, Beth (Gary) Koenen of Cedar Falls and Mark Andersen of Clear Lake; grandson Zach Andersen of Cedar Falls; sister Diane Burns of Portland, OR and sister-in-law Amy Andersen Jensen of Dike; mother-in-law Marlys Dieken of Dike; aunt Mildred Sloth of Cedar Falls and uncle Gordon Sloth of Dike; many nieces and nephews.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Ronald and Kenneth Andersen.
