Charles Dean Barfels, 77, of Grundy Center, died from natural causes on Sunday June 14, 2009, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, Iowa.

Charles was born November 17, 1931 in Grundy Center, Iowa the son of Mandus "Mike" Obailey Barfels and Mary Velva (French) Barfels. He was raised in Grundy Center and graduated from the Grundy Center High school in 1949. He then attended Hawkeye Tech for hydraulic repair.

He was united in marriage to Nadine Adell Shuey. He lived in Grundy Center, Traer, Albion, Iowa, Utica, Edwards and Raymond, Mississippi, then he moved to Clive, Waterloo, Holland and finally back to Grundy Center where he has been for the last 20 years. Charles worked as a farmer and also in auto mechanics. In 1966 he started working for John Deere Tractor Works retiring in 1992 after 26 years of faithful service.

He is survived by his wife Lois of Grundy Center, Iowa, children: Steven and wife Vicki Barfels of Hudson, Iowa, Curtis and wife Tammy Barfels of Kingston Springs, Tennessee, Don and wife Diane Barfels of Evansdale, Iowa, Charles and wife Diane Barfels of Evansdale, Iowa, Troy and wife Terri Barfels of Colombia, South Carolina and Sharon and husband Wayne Cisewiski of Mosinee, Wisconsin; step-sons: Larry and wife Terri Ingersoll of Waterloo, Iowa, and Gary and wife Lori Ingersoll of Cedar Falls, Iowa, 14 grandchildren and 6 step grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were her parents, a son Del Leon Barfels and a brother Clarence Edward Barfels.
