Vivian Bernice Schuknecht, 99, of Reinbeck, Iowa, died Saturday, February 21, 2009, at Parkview Manor in Reinbeck. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, February 25, 2009, at French Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck, with Pastor Joel Love officiating. Burial will follow at the Reinbeck Cemetery in Reinbeck. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 24, 2009, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at French Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck, where the family will be present to greet friends. In lieu of flowers memorials maybe made to Reinbeck Library in Vivian's name.

Vivian was born December 12, 1909, in Waverly, Iowa, the second daughter of Edward Charles and Wynona (Knight) Schuknecht. She was baptized in the Episcopal Church in Waverly, Iowa. The family moved to Reinbeck where Vivian entered school and graduated as valedictorian from Reinbeck High School in 1927. Vivian graduated from Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls, now UNI and started teaching in a rural school. She then transferred to Lincoln, Iowa, teaching Upper Elementary Grades, then Reinbeck Junior High and Reinbeck High School where she taught both English and Spanish. Vivian was also the Girls Basketball team chaperone and scorekeeper until she retired after 47 years of teaching. She was one of three organizers of the Reinbeck Theater Guild and was an active member for 30 years; they produced home talent plays and musicals. After retirement Vivian traveled extensively in Alaska, Mexico, Europe, Greece, Russia and China. When China adopted their Open Door Policy, she was one of the first tour groups to walk on the Great Wall of China. Vivian loved gardening and kept a yard full of flowers of every kind.

She is survived by her nephew; Douglas (Jean) Benham; great nieces, Janelle (Randy) Bricker and Valerie (Greg) Boyer; one great-great nephew Brandon Nordstrom and three great-great nieces, Alexandria, Hannah, and Lydia Bricker.

Vivian was preceded in death by her parents and sister and brother–in-law Phyllis and Guy Benham.
