Funeral services for Jacob A. Geerdes were held on Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Doyen Funeral Home and at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church.

Rev. Harold Hollander was officiating clergyman.

Music was given by a men's quartet, Richard Schafer, Lary Riebkes, Arnold Eiten and Melvin Haupt. Organist was Miss Elizabeth Eckhoff. Flower attendants were Mrs. John H. Krull and Mrs. Henry C. Nederhoff.

Pall bearers were Rodney Deters, Wallace Deters, Arnold Nederhoff, Anthony Ackerman and Sherman Hook.

Interment was made in the First Christian Reformed Church cemetery.

Jacob A. Geerdes passed away at his home in Wellsburg Wednesday morning, June 2, 1971, around 4:30 o'clock following a lingering illness. He reached the age of 61 years, 8 months and 13 days.

He was born on a farm in Shiloh township, Grundy county, southwest of Wellsburg on Sept 19, 1909, the son of Albert and Hilka (Tjaden) Geerdes. He attended the rural school in the area. He was united in marriage to Miss Martha Deters on Jan 6, 1938, at the First Christian Reformed Church parsonage by the Rev. Louis Voskuil. Following their marriage they lived in Wellsburg for one year and then moved to his parents' farm in 1939. In 1959 the family moved to Wellsburg. He was employed at the Iowa Radiant Electric Heat in Wellsburg until his health began to fail.

He was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church, having made confession of his faith in Jesus Christ on April 14, 1939.

Those left to mourn his passing are: his wife, Martha, one daughter (Imogene), Mrs. Lee Boomgarden of Wellsburg; two sons, Don Geerdes of Minneapolis, Minn., Dale Geerdes at home; 2 grandsons; Gary and Brian Boomgarden; his mother, Mrs. Albert Geerdes of Wellsburg; four sisters and one brother; (Tilda), Mrs. Raymond Hook of Aplington; Wayne Geerdes of Cedar Falls; (Gladys) Mrs. Herman Eckhoff of Wellsburg; Mrs. Vera Ackerman of Iowa Falls; (Thelma) Mrs. Paul Slinker of Grundy Center; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded by his father who passed away in 1967.
