Grace Meester, 87, of Wellsburg, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 28, 2007, at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley, Iowa, while under the care of Iowa Hospice. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, December 3, 2007, at the Wellsburg Reformed Church in Wellsburg, Iowa, with Pastor Todd Rempe officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Valley Reformed Church Cemetery, rural Holland, Iowa. Visitation will be Sunday, December 2, 2007, from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M., with the family present to greet friends at Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Grace was born November 1, 1920, in Simonswolde, Ostfriesland Germany, the daughter of Jacob and Ettje (Van Westen) Westerman. In 1923, at the age of three, Grace came to America with her parents and one brother. She received her education in rural Grundy County schools.

On March 7, 1939, Grace was united in marriage to Alfred J. Meester at Pleasant Valley Reformed Church, rural Holland, Iowa. After their marriage they farmed in rural Grundy County, Iowa. In 1978, they retired and moved to Wellsburg. On March 1, 1983, Grace's husband Alfred died, and she continued to make Wellsburg her home. She was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church, where she had been active in the Ladies Bible Study Group. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards and board games. Grace loved to quilt and made many quilts for her family. She liked to cross-stitch and she also sewed for others.

She is survived by two daughters-Bernice Heinrich and her husband Leland of Wellsburg, Iowa; Lavonne Eckhoff of Waterloo, Iowa; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one sister Margaret Everts of New Hartford, Iowa; one brother Jack Westerman and his wife Dorothy of Holland, Iowa; three sisters-in-law- Etta Schmitt of Dike, Iowa; Lillian Meester of Clear Lake, Iowa; and Viola Meester of Grundy Center, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Alfred in 1983; one stillborn son; and one brother.
