Cornelius Harken Died Thursday

Cornelius U. Harken, son of Ubbe and Margaret Harken, was born June 11, 1877, in Butler county. He passed away Thursday morning, March 6, 1958, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John L. Meyer, having attained the age of 80 years, 8 months, 25 days.

On Feb. 20, 1901, he was united in marriage to Etta Neymeyer.

On Jan. 1, 1902, he became a member of the Westfriesland Presbyterian church, Ackley, Ia., and later served the church for 25 years as a deacon.

Mr. and Mrs. Harken were the parents of 11 children. Mr. Harken was preceded in death by two infant sons, his wife on Jan. 30, 1926, and one daughter, Anna.

He is survived by eight children: Margaret, Mrs. Harm Rops, Parkersburg; Lena, Mrs. Herman Steege, Denver; Obbo Harken, Clarksville; Bernice, Mrs. Harold Freesman, Parkersburg; Jake Harken, Cedar Falls; Arend Harken, Parkersburg; Martha, Mrs. Hilmer Pruisner, Parkersburg; Gertrude, Mrs. John L. Meyer, Aplington; 27 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Bena Neymeyer and Anna Popkes, Aplington; 4 brothers; Reemt, Austinville; Isbrant, Shell Rock; David and Klaas, Aplington; besides many other relatives and friends.
