P. P. Eekhoff, Lifelong Area Resident, Dead

Peter P. Eekhoff passed away Monday morning, April 12, 1976, at his home due to complications of advanced age. He reached the age of 88 years, 1 month and 17 days.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon, April 14, 1976 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church. Rev. Wiert Eekhoff was officiating clergyman. A men's quartet, Richard Schafer, Alfred Eiten, Harvey Eiten and Willis Bakker sang two selections. Mrs. LuRay Meyer was organist. Pall bearers were Gratus G. Geerdes, David Primus, Chris Christians, Harry Eckhoff, Arend Eckhoff and Darrell Freese. Interment was made in the First Christian Reformed Church cemetery. Arrangements were in charge of Doyen Funeral Home.

He was born on a farm west of Wellsburg on February 25, 1888, the son of Peter and Eda (Wienenga) Eekhoff. He attended the Wellsburg public school. On January 3, 1914, he was united in marriage to Jennie Siemens. Following their marriage they lived on the Eekhoff home place farm where he was born. In 1927, they moved to their present farm place, which is located on the county line road in western Grundy county.

Mr. Eekhoff was a faithful member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg, having made confession of his faith in Jesus Christ on May 18, 1917.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Jennie, who passed away on May 13, 1957; 6 brothers and sisters: Mrs. Claus Ruter (Jennie), Boyd Eekhoff, Mrs. Ben Ruter (Gertie), Mrs. John Eekhoff (Pearl), Mrs. John M. Bakker (Martha), Henry Eekhoff and 2 brothers and 1 sister in infancy.

Those left to mourn his passing are: 1 son, Edward Eekhoff of Eldora; 2 daughters, Miss Elizabeth Eekhoff of Steamboat Rock; Mrs. Anco Baker (Pauline) of Kanawha; 9 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Mrs. Anco Janssen (Helen) of the Presbyterian Home in Ackley; Mrs. John H. Ruter (Anna) of Wellsburg; Mrs. Adolph Deters (Grace) of the Prebyterian Home in Ackley and many other relatives and friends.

Our heartfelt thanks to all relatives, friends and neighbors for their expressions of sympathy following the loss of our dear one. We are grateful to Rev. Wiert Eekhoff for his words of comfort, for the music, flowers, memorials and for food brought in. We deeply appreciate all the kindness shown at this time.
